Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Recap...so far

Okay, so I have totally fallen off of my PLL weekly updates!  I really have no excuse, besides being too lazy to type up the recaps.

So let's get to it:

Everyone is looking extremely suspect right now!  "A" could be anyone, and by anyone I mean any of the girls, parents, boyfriends, friends, etc.  I do still think that "A" is somewhat random, but somehow connected to all of the girls in some way.  There has been a lot of talk of Allie, but the storyline with her is slow and a little all over the place in my opinion.  It seems as if this girl was into an awful before her death, things that no 15 or 16 should have been into.  I mean from her possibly being pregnant when she died, to hanging out with college kids, manipulating nearly everyone around her including her mother, the whole mask thing...its crazy!  Now we have Spencer on this rampage to find out how all this ties in, but to me her and Toby seem the most suspicious.  I can't shake the feeling that Spencer, of all the girls, has the strongest ties to "A".  Her sister who has been in and out of the entire show's storyline throughout the seasons has popped up as a player in this whole "A" game thing.  We also have Hannah's mother looking very suspect in the death of Det Wilden, so Hannah is trying her best to figure how her mother is tied to that.  In this week's episode we saw that Hannah's father's handgun, the same one used to kill Wilden, was found in her mother's luggage.  Her mother denied ever having the gun and said she didn't know how the gun got there.  The on-going storyline and tension between Aria and Ezra (Mr. Fitz) is still very apparent, although it appears she is trying to move on.  Funny enough, just as her mother exits the storyline, her brother re-enters it.  I haven't seen him on the show since like season 2, when he start tripping.  I guess he's back and stable, although he knows all about Aria's affair with Ezra and makes it very known to her that he does.  I'm not quite sure of his relevance to the entire storyline, but he still appears somewhat jaded, so that might come into play down the line.

Meanwhile, Emily is now off the school's swim team due to her shoulder injury.  That girl has the most unnecessary drama of the entire show.  Its like they try to make drama with a character that has none.  On the flipside, a new girl (not sure if she's into girls or not) has popped up on the scene as competition for Emily.  Both with swimming and personally.  This chick is now on the school's swim team after transferring, taking Emily's spot on the team.  This particular girl is extremely shady acting and its evident that there is some real tension between the two girls.  Now, back to Toby and Spencer, as they nearly travelled back in time on this week's episode, to seek out this housemother of a sorority that Allie had connections with.  I will tell you that this woman looked creepy as all get out!  I don't know if it was the lighting, actually I'm pretty sure it was the lighting, but she was CREEPY!  The town they went to was almost a Pleasantville-esque looking town, with old cars and was seen by us outside viewers as being in black and white or sepia at times.  Spencer sees the woman getting her hair done in a salon and barges in to ask her about Allie.  The woman is of no help and Spencer is sent along her merry way.  Upon leaving the salon, Spencer realizes music is playing and that everyone is going to this courtyard with a statue with flowers on it.  We don't know what this is about, but they see a girl they know from back in their hometown and start running to the car to follow.

Okay so back to Aria, her brother, and Ezra.  Aria is asked to look over a fellow students work, since she's know for being a good writer.  Her and this guy, who looks to be in the same grade as her or brother, are sitting on the couch and she's giving him her feedback, very platonically of course.  Next thing we know they finish up, he's leaving and he plants a kiss on her.  She tells him she's not interested in him like that and he leaves.  The next day at school Aria's brother comes up to her to scold her about hooking up with this guy.  She is stunned, knowing that this did not happen and immediately runs into the boy's lockeroom where this kid is and proceeds to tell him off.  He plays the jerk role and tries to make it appear as if she's lying and blasts her, saying that everyone knows about he affair with Ezra.

Overall, the season is pretty good and every episode leaves me wanting more.  I wonder how long they plan on dragging out the Red Coat character and who "A" is or isn't.  I feel like "A" changes with every season, and a new dynamic is added to the character, so that who "A" is can and probably will never be pinpointed.  That's the true beauty of a real cliffhanger...hat's off to the writers for contriving such poignant storylines with teenagers.

Until next time folks...

Happy bumping!

Pretty Little Liars, Season 4, Episode 2 Recap

Okay, so I am totally late on this...forgive me!  I fell asleep right before PLL came on last week and missed most of the 8 P.M. airing. I did catch enough in the last 20 or so minutes to put everything together when I re-watched the entire show at 10 P.M.  Tip for those of you who miss the first airing at 8 P.M., it always airs again at 10 P.M. (thank goodness, even though I have On Demand!)  Who wants to wait until the next day if they don’t have to?  Anyhow, so from what my memory serves me...it wasn't too eventful of an episode, which I fully expected.  You rarely have a strong follow-up episode to the premiere, although it did have its moments.

In this episode Hannah questions why her mom's shoes ended up in the trash after it appeared that they had attempted to be cleaned with a toothbrush.  Emily ends up hitting her head on the pool wall during a swim meet, most likely caused from her passing out while swimming.  It is revealed during this episode that she has been having arm/shoulder pain and that she's been taking something for it.  As usual, everyone who pops up appears to be very suspect.  Spencer and Toby are yet again at odds, because Toby tells Spencer that "A" has promised him something and that he can't tell her what it is.

Allison's mother reminisces on different memories of Allison, also revealing what we already know, that Ally was extremely unstable and manipulative.  Of course, the ever-going awkwardness of Aria and Ezra was evident during the dreamquence classroom scenes.  I'm actually quite bored with that particular storyline, so I'm glad the show is moving away from it. Looks like Aria has a new love interest and has even taken on karate in her efforts to make a connection.  Now from the beginning it looks like she is simply taking the class to learn about Wilden, but we soon come to see her attraction to the instructor, ending up with her kissing him.

Overall, the episode was a little slow and uneventful, but of course as with every episode they build on each other. There is still a lot of mystery and unknown and this week's episode ended with the quintessential cliffhanger as they all do.  They always leave us wanting more!

Well, those were the main highlights.  Stay tuned for episode 3's recap and review!

Pretty Little Liars, Episode 1, Season 4 Summer Premiere Review

image

So if you are here then you must be a PLL fan ready to discuss all the juicy details of the premiere.  Well you’re not alone, I am too!

WARNING! CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Well let’s get to it then:

I thought that the premiere was super suspenseful.  There were even moments when I got a little rattled and creeped out by the tone and setting of some of the scenes.  Basically, the season opened with the girls standing over the trunk of Wilden’s patrol car about the pop the trunk.  Upon popping the trunk we learn that the mystery within it is a pig, yes a PIG!  We waited all these months for that?!  Anyhow, I guess it was fitting with him being a cop and all.  I can’t say I’m sad to see his character go, he was always hounding the girls and was equally just as suspicious as every other person on the show.

The show touched back on Aria and Ezra’s ended relationship, with him accepting a teaching job back at her high school.  His reasoning was that he had a family to now take care of and if Aria wanted to see other people, then sometimes that being the best way to get over someone.  Jump forward about 20 mins in and we see Aria get called to the vice principle’s office, after staring at Ezra while talking to Hannah in the quad.  We then see her sitting nervously outside the vice principle’s office.  She gets called in and confronted about her relationship with Ezra, having evidential pictures thrown at her by the vice principle.  Next we see Ezra being arrested and taken away by the authorities.  But wait…yep, you guess it was a dreamquence, they got us again!  The for real moment is the vice principle simply giving Aria a package to give her mom, and him sending her mom well wishes to feel better.

The plot thicken with Hannah and Mona driving the RV out to a remote farm site to stow away incriminating evidence about them and the rest of the girls.  The episode also slightly touched on Spencer and Toby’s relationship with him being back in town, and on her good side.  Toby’s still a bit shady, but its hard to tell at times whose team he’s really on, A or the girls.  Meanwhile, Emily and Paige are discussing college, resulting in Paige going to Stanford and asking Emily to go with her.  They say they love each other after Emily agrees, and they hug…kiss…and next!  I have a feeling that in true PLL fashion, they will not be together by the season’s end.  The two are clearly going in two different directions, and on top of that Emily seems to still questions her sexuality at times.

Season 4 summer premiere rounds out with the girls attending Wilden’s funeral to basically break into his casket and retrieve whatever incriminating evidence that may be in his casket.  They walk into the church and immediately split up, but not before they notice a woman draped in a black veil.  Once in the church and after splitting up, the scene pans off to Spencer who finds the casket.  Out of the shadows Mona appears stating that they must have received the same message.  They proceed to open is casket and a phone starts to ring.  Spencer answers the phone and Hannah (shocker!) picks up, asking why she’s calling her from her mother’s phone.  Weird!  Now we’ve just opened a huge can of worms, so many questions!  Who put the phone in the casket?  What does Hannah’s mom have to do with Wilden’s death?  Why did only Spencer and Mona receive the message?

The suspense was ridiculous and the episode ended in typical PLL cliffhanger fashion.  We see the black veiled woman now surrounded by an Ali shrine with the dolls that the little girls from earlier in the episode had.  Each doll represents a girl, with a doll in Mona’s likeness being added to the bunch.  The black veiled woman takes off the veil to reveal a mask.  As the woman looks in the mirror, we see her turn from one side to the next, revealing that half of the mask in damaged.  I have my suspensions about who this masked woman could be.  The masked woman is definitely someone either working with A or A herself.  We shall see!

What did you think about last night’s episode?  What are your thoughts?

Pretty Little Liars

Watch Preview Videos from the Summer Premiere!

Pretty Little Liars is coming back on tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited.  I'm seriously so thankful that a show I genuinely like is coming back on for the summer.  Summer tv can be the absolute worst, because nothing and I mean nothing comes on outside of re-runs and corny reality shows.  I'm glad that networks are switching it up and deciding to put some Dramas on for entertainment.  I can only handle so many talent reality shows.  Now...unfortunately, because its been like 3 months since PLL went off, I don't remember exactly what happened in the last episode.  I know for a fact that we should find out who Red Coat is and that there is a whole new Ali storyline, with the character having made several appearances in the last season.  Then there's the shifty detective who's always out to get the girls and the ever-going up and down relationships between the girls and their parents, and the parents' own drama.

Of course I'll be doing a follow up post after tomorrow night's show.  Make sure you watch, because there will be spoilers for sure!

Happy Bumping!
