Baby This Week | 34 Weeks

http://scmedia.theknot.com/~/media/317DB2BACE304C8F81D8BBEB1E6291E8.ashx
Let’s hope my child doesn’t actually look like this, lol!
The Facts – Baby is taking deep breaths this week. The eyes can blink and are open when it’s awake and closed when asleep, and the pupils dilate and constrict in reaction to light. Baby is about 18 inches and weighs about 5 pounds.

Baby This Week | 33 Weeks

We are durian fruit (whatever that is?!) status folks! I think I’ve seen this fruit in person a few times and I always have to touch it, lol.  I’ve never had it before though.  Maybe one day I’ll actually try it out.

Baby This Week | 32 Weeks

We are squash status this week people! Again, I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I have something that big inside of me. Nonetheless, let's get to it:

Baby This Week | 31 Weeks

Man oh man, with every week that passes it feels more and more real, yet still surreal.  We are at week 31, yep 8 months...its official we are rounding out the last two months.  Beats me why they say pregnancy is 9 months when it's really 10.  I guess they don't want women to feel like they are pregnant even longer than it already seems they are.

Baby This Week | 29 Weeks

http://www.jrorganicsfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/acorn-squash.jpg

29 weeks

What in the world is an acorn squash?  I don’t know either, but apparently baby is the size of it this week!

The facts - Baby is about two and a half pounds and about 15-17" inches tall.  The adrenal glands are producing a chemical which will be made into estriol (a form of estrogen) by the placenta. This estriol is thought to stimulate the production of prolactin by the body, and the prolactin makes you produce milk.  This means if baby comes early, I'll still be able to breastfeed.

Baby's brain can detect rhythmic breathing and control body temperature, so he or she is less likely to need breathing assistance should they be born early. Little one is growing eyelashes, adding fat, and developing his or her brain. Because of brain wave activity, researchers have speculated that babies can even dream at this time! This week baby's head is in proportion with the rest of its body.  Even more so, baby's eyes can move in the sockets, and the muscles and lungs continue to mature. Bone marrow is now producing red blood cells, and fat continues to develop under baby's skin. Baby may even begin to settle into the proper birthing position, however, there is still plenty of time (and some room) for them to turn and flip.  Doctor's typically don't start being concerned with this until about 34-36 weeks.

Pregnancy Week 29
Baby – Holy moly this baby is strong!  Strong and all over the place I tell you!  It literally feels like I have a large human inside of me trying to break out sometimes…what a minute, that’s exactly what’s happening.  Well, I  don’t know about the break out part, but this kid is getting bigger by the day.  I can feel noticeable body parts, although I can’t differentiate what they are yet when baby moves.  Lately, I have been feeling something really hard hanging out nearly my ribs, I’m assuming its feet or legs.  Baby is active about 75-80% of the time

Me - I am so behind the ball this week!  I have had a pretty emotional week, but I don't know if I can attribute it to pregnancy or not.  I'm leaning more towards not, because I just have a lot of external things going on that have me a little stressed right now.  Okay, now to get back on topic.  I have been exhausted, sleepy, unmotivated, and lazy...just being honest.  This baby is starting to pull from me like it did in the first trimester.  I'm also feeling a lot heavier and sleep is more and more uncomfortable and restless.  I can feel all the movements stronger, which gives me so much reassurance.  I still worry and put a lot of pressure on myself, but I'm trying to keep a balance.  I have totally fallen off my protein routine, so I plan to get back on that next week.  I have gotten completely bored with eating breakfast, or eating at all for that matter.  It's to the point where I pretty much hate eating.  I have to eat when I'm not hungry and when I do I can't even eat much, which stresses me out.  I do my best to snack and whatnot, but sometimes I still don't feel like I'm getting enough.  Even more so, when I see my weight at a standstill for two weeks it's frustrating.  I really feel like I'm just breaking down emotionally and just need a break from the routine and monotony.  My second shower is next weekend and I'm excited about it, but I'm also excited to just have some time off and away from the norm.  My belly hasn't been as itchy this week, which is a nice break, but I kind like it itchy, because it lets me know its growing.  Speaking of my belly, I'm pretty sure I'm pushing 35", although in the morning its always smaller. It's so weird, sometimes I feel like my bump is big and other times I feel like its small.  Nonetheless, I know there's a baby growing in there, so that's all that matters.  I still can't really tell what position baby is in, but I am feeling movements in different areas than previous weeks.  I'm pretty sure baby changed positions, but to what and where, I couldn't tell you.  I know there is still plenty of time for baby to flip into any position, so I'm not too overly concerned.  Each passing week brings more and more anticipation for this little guy or girl to get here.  I'm really getting stoked to get this kid here, but not for 10ish more weeks!

Hubs - Not much really going on this week.  He is mainly eager like I am for baby to get here.  We are still working out everything job and moving wise, but things are looking up.  We are simply just in a period of transition and I know we will soon have more certainty.  Hubs is interacting more with the baby, and usually gets nudged back by it with he pokes and prods at it.  He is still keeping me moisturized and sends me to bed at night when I try to stay up too late.  I say we both keep each other on track.  As much alike as we were, we are completely different.  In part because he has that Y chromosome that makes him do stuff that just doesn't make sense to me at times, but I'm pretty sure he feels the same way about me sometimes.

It's 30 weeks next week folks!  Less than 3 months left and so exciting!  Until then...I'll see ya 'round.

Happy bumping!

2nd Trimester In Review

Second Trimester In Review

Since I’m officially in the third trimester, I though I’d post a review (in pictures) of me throughout the second trimester.

I have been doing updates on my blog since 17 weeks, so I’ll spare you an entire recap on the trimester. You can always read through what was going on in each weekly update.  I also have a Youtube channel where I post weekly update videos, so you can see me live and kinda in person there.

Second Trimester Collage

All in all, the second trimester wasn’t bad at all.  I’ll say that I didn’t really have the whole honeymoon affect that they talk about.  Your supposed to get this great boost of energy and feel great, but I pretty much felt the same as I felt in the first trimester. The major differences were appetite increase (although not much!), my growing belly (pretty inevitable), and no nausea - I think I only threw up once during the entire trimester and that was because I got car sick.

I’m looking forward to riding out the rest of this third trimester and I am so excited for baby to get here in October.  I’m so happy to be able to take you all on this journey with me.  Stay tuned for weekly updates and other baby-themed posts as I progress through the next 12 weeks.

Happy bumping!

28 Week Appointment Update

28 Week Appt Update

This past Monday, I had my 28 week appointment. I must say it went much better than my 24 week one.  No issues with weight gain or anything like that, so that was definitely a plus.  I had all the standard stuff checked out, plus the 1 hour glucose test.  Basically, I drank the drink at the beginning of my appointment, got checked out by my PA, scheduled my next appt, then waited about 30 mins to go down to the lab to have my blood drawn.

Alright, so here's the rundown on my appointment:

Weight:  141 - according to their scale w/ clothes on.  I'm about 139ish on my scale at home with no clothes on.  This means I'm up about 4 lbs from my last appt, because I apparently only weighed in at 137 at my 24 week appointment.  I'm supposed to put on an lb a week, so again, all is well with that.

Blood Pressure:  108/60, its usually 100/60 so nothing out of the ordinary.  I had also just eaten my two eggs that I was supposed to eat about 30 mins before I had my BP tested.

Fundal Height: 29 cm, I was 27w6d at the time so I was measuring really good.  Yay for baby growing good!   Good baby grow!

Baby's heartbeat: 141.  Nice & strong.  Its been in the 140s lately, I take it that it will stay around there. SD:  Baby was so active that the PA had to chase the baby around to find the heartbeat, on top of the baby kicking and jabbing at the Doppler.

1 hr Glucose test:  Short and sweet...I had the fruit punch flavor, it was chilled and good and I didn't mind it at all!  Its been 4 days and my PA said she would call me the same day if ym results came back abnormal, no new is good news!  Yay for passing!

Other stuff:  We talked about taking the Dtap vaccine, but I decided to wait until my next appointment, since I was already having blood drawn.  PA asked me about birth classes, which I'm already signed up for next month.  I confirmed where I will deliever, as long as I'm in Va at the time, so reassurance with that!  Hubs & I would would kind of like to know where to go when baby decides it times to come.  My appointments will remain at being every 4 weeks until my next appt, so I'll have an appointment at 32 weeks and then they will start being every 2 weeks.  That's actually good news, because the less they need to see you, the better.  I asked my PA if baby was head down since she found the heartbeat low, and she said it probably was but that they aren't concerned with the baby's position until 36 weeks.  Reason being is that baby still has plenty of room to flip and move around until about that time.  Some baby's even flip even while mom is laboring, so you never really know until its time for the baby to actually come.

That's pretty much the gist of everything that happened at my appointment.  I'll be updating you all gain at 32 weeks.  I can't believe I'll be in the single digits the next time I update, that's wild!

Happy bumping!

Baby This Weeks | 27 Weeks

27 Weeks

Alright party people, we are in for the home stretch!  This week officially marks the 3rd trimester, 27 weeks!  At least according to my What To Expect phone app, so I'm gonna go with that.  Either way we have reached a huge milestone with only 13ish weeks to go and I couldn't be more grateful.

Baby about 14.5 inches long and weighs just about 2 pounds. This week, baby's brain is developing quickly. Little one's eyelids, which have remained closed up until this point, begin to open, they actually started to open last week and now his retinas can begin to form. The retina contains specialized photoreceptor cells that respond to light, called rods and cones. Cones in particular help us perceive color.

Baby's skin is still wrinkly; but by 27 weeks, he or she basically looks how they will look when I give birth to them.  The sounds baby hears are muffled (thanks to the creamy coating of vernix covering those ears), he or she may recognize both mine and my husband's voices.  This is a good time for me (and Hubs) to read and even sing to baby (or rather, my belly)  Fun fact:  If Hubs presses his ear to your belly, he might be able to hear the baby's heartbeat.  Also, baby's taste buds are very developed now too (with more taste buds than he or she will ever have outside the womb, actually).

Baby - This little guy or girl is getting stronger by the day.  Baby is supposed to be on a sleep plan now, but appears to be awake a good portion of the day, especially in the morning now.  Seems like baby likes to sleep after we eat and in the early afternoon, but I can't really pinpoint it right now.  Although I do know they move in their sleep, so just because they're moving doesn't mean baby is actually awake, just that baby is active.  He or she appears to be a wild sleeper like me, if that's the case, lol!  Baby's kicks and movements are getting higher and higher, sometimes in my ribs, high on my sides, and high smack in the middle, under my sternum.
 Pregnancy Week 27

Me - I'm now at a whopping 137-139lbs (depending on what time of the day it is).  That means I'm about 13-15 lbs up from my pre-pregnancy weight of 124-126.  I think I have done a really good job gaining weight, well probably mostly baby, but hey that's what I'm supposed to be gaining.  That means with 13 weeks to go my overall weight gain should be around 26-28 lbs.  I know my PA wants me to gained between 30-35, but I'm totally content with the 25-30 lbs gain.  The last few days I have had some discomfort, which I think its mostly attributed to my uterus stretching and growing.  Today, Tuesday, so far I actually feel pretty good.  As I sit here and type this, I can feel little one kicking and jabbing me and it feels great!  No signs of pre-term labor, swelling, stretch marks, or anything else weird going on.  Rings are still on, but I'm growing out of my cammies super fast, so I think I will have to switch over to the maternity ones very soon.  My belly is really itchy, so I know its going and is measuring at around 33".  I fully expect that by the end of the week that it will measure around 34".

Hubs -  Doing good as usual.  He loves feeling the baby and even likes to provoke it at times.  I can say that I think this kid will totally get us back once its born, because we mess with it all the time. ;-) When I asked Hubs if my belly look bigger he always tells me yes, but sometimes I think he's just saying it to say it.  Nonetheless, he always brings the reality to the situation, reminding me when I say I'm fat, that I'm actually pregnant.  This guy's been through it with me and this pregnancy, so I give him props for being a real team player all the time.

Until next week folks....

Happy bumping!

Thoughts from a preggo | Body Image & Missing Myself

Thoughts of a PreggoI don't know how many of my readers have been through pregnancy and seen their body change and had to adjust, but it really doesn't matter, because I think body image is applicable to everyone.  Before becoming pregnant, I never thought about my body.  Even as I've aged, its never ever been an issue.  I've had the same body since I was a teenager, outside of getting taller and a few places becoming slightly more developed.  Pregnancy is the most drastic change I have ever seen my body make.  I think pregnancy is beautiful, always have.  Every time I see a pregnant woman, I think 'aww...look at her bump, its so cute!'  I never thought about what that woman may be going through seeing her body change.  I never thought about what I would think about my body while being pregnant.  I love being pregnant and most days I think my bump is really cute and awesome, in part because I know a baby is growing in there.  However, it doesn't change the fact that sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and have to do a double take.  I had a six-pack of abs before becoming pregnant, always have, a relatively small bum, which is now a full on stripper booty, and my thighs, well I actually have some cellulite on them.  Now, I am pushing 30, 27 to be exact, so I realize that I won't have an 18 year old body forever.  I am more than willing to give up my body for this baby and any future babies that I will have.  Its not that big of a deal to me superficially speaking, but it is still an adjustment.

I have to admit I don't feel as sexy, I don't move as fast, and I'm definitely not able to turn cartwheels, ride zip lines, and go on rollercoasters right now.  Of course, its common sense, silly me: I'm pregnant!  That's not to say I don't miss all that stuff.  I also put so much pressure on myself to do the right thing all the time while being pregnant.  I am doing everything with in my power to bring this baby into the world normal, healthy, and safely.  This means working through my still apparent food aversions and lack of appetite, and eating when I have and need to, versus when I want to.  It also means tossing and turning all night and getting up throughout the night to use the restroom at least once, and any other time I need to go.  Now, I can deal with all that, really, I can, because the end result is so miraculous and such a blessing.  My husband doesn't understand why I put so much pressure on myself, and he probably won't ever.  Its the perfectionist in me that makes me want to have all my ducks in a row at all times.  I put in the immense effort, because I expect good results.  I know nothing good comes easy in life, or at least most things.

Have you ever felt this way?  Missed your old self?  Have to adjust to your self or a new way of life?
I know I'm not alone!

Until next time!

Baby This Week | 26 Weeks

Baby is the size of a head of lettuce, or just an actual head lol!  I can't believe I have something that big inside of me, its crazy! Baby's eyelids separate and the eyes are starting to open. Lungs are beginning to develop surfactant, which allows them to inflate. Baby has begun to sleep for longer periods as well.  Little one is about 14 inches in length and weights almost 2 pounds. This week marks a major milestone in baby's hearing and sight. Little one's hearing system (cochlea and peripheral sensory end organs), which began fine development during week eighteen, is now completely formed, and over the next few weeks, he or she become increasingly sensitive to sound. Very soon, I'll be able to feel him or her jump if they hear a sudden loud noise. Sound passes easily into m uterus, which helps the ears develop. Her eyes are almost fully formed, although they are blue, because a baby's eyes don't get their final color until a few months after they are born. The air sacs of the lungs, called alveoli, will be developed by the end of this week and will begin to secrete a substance called surfactant that keeps the lung tissue from sticking together.

Baby's lungs continue to develop, and she is taking small breaths of amniotic fluid inside your womb. These small breaths are getting little one in shape for their first breath of fresh air.  Veins are visible through baby's transparent skin, but soon that will change, as it begins to turn opaque. If baby is a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days.
Baby – Can we say super duper active!  I literally think that this kid is awake 24 hours even though they say the baby sleeps majority of the time.  I can tell baby has gotten bigger and stronger by its movements.  Sometimes they even startled me because they can be a little intense.  Baby definitely seems to be a lot more responsive to touch and noise, more to touch most recently.  Little one likes to hang out all over the place and I can’t quite decipher whether he or she is head up or down.  Sometimes I feel movement way down low and other times I feel it pretty high up.

Me – Sitting in an up-right position for long periods of time is uncomfortable.  I’ve put on about a pound from last, and the belly is getting bigger by the day.  No swelling, pre-term labors signs, or other crazy stuff going on, thank goodness!  Sleeping on the other hand can be a feat, and not because I still get up throughout the night to use the restroom.  It’s because my belly is getting bigger and I’m having to figure how to adjust to it.  I’m seriously going to start putting a pillow down and having that next to my belly while I sleep.  I have also noticed that I’ve gotten heavier, or rather my belly has so turning over and even standing up from laying down can be challenging at times.

Hubs – As usual he is doing good.  I think the baby shower made the baby a little more real to him and he’s even more excited.  I really think he would like for baby to come out and automatically be 3 or 4 years old so he can play with baby, go places, and dress him or her up to look like him.  Hubs is working more, so he’s not home at night much, but always calls to check on me and baby and make sure we’re okay.  He’s on dinner duty for the next two nights, so I know we’ll be getting some good grubbin’!

Until next week folks…

Happy bumping!

Baby This Week | 24 Weeks

Yep, that's right we have officially hit viability! What a big feat, now just 16 more weeks to go, if that! We are also at cantaloupe status this week. Whaaaa...your telling me my kid's a cantaloupe?! Okay, okay, logically I know my baby isn't a cantaloupe, but he or she is as big as one. This week baby's skin is gradually becoming less see-though and it starting to look more opague, soon it will start getting some pigment too. Baby is heavier now and let me tell you, I can tell! She or he weighs about 12.7-20.8 oz and is about 11.8 inches long. So basically, this kid already takes up my whole abdomen. This is probably why I him or her in my ribs sometimes. Baby's brain is also growing quickly now, and his or her taste buds are continuing to develop. The lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his or her air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. Also, baby has developed waking/sleeping patterns and real hair (not lanugo) has begun to grow on the head.

Baby - Always rolling around and punching and kicking in there!  This kid is active all day...and night!  The movements, or kicks and jabs have definitely gotten stronger.  I'm also starting to rally be able to feel whole body movements.  I do believe that baby is on some sort of sleeping schedule, mainly during the day, because he or she is less active when I'm at work.  However, as soon as I'm home and resting this little guy or girl wakes up and starts bouncing all around.  I have also noticed that baby is more active when its time for me to eat.  I can't pinpoint if its because maybe my stomach growls and moves or if the baby is actually hungry and telling me, "Hey Mom, its time to eat!".

Me - I'm feeling pretty good!  My belly has expanded by probably a half of an inch to 3/4 of an inch.  Exciting!  I do think that pregnancy insomnia  has started to set in.  I'm up later and its hard to stay sleep, because I'm tossing and turning all night and up going to the bathroom.  My belly has been very itchy as well lately, so I'm know I'm growing and the skin is stretching.  Hair, skin, and nails are looking good and growing well, no complaints!  I did noticed that my gums don't look swollen any more and I'm not getting the teeny tiny blood shed I was getting when I brush my teeth lately.  Overall, nothing major, no signs of pre-term labor, stretch marks, or swelling, so I'm very happy about that!

Hubs - I really think he forgets I'm pregnant sometimes, lol!  I do know that he likes that fact that I'm pregnant, but not necessarily me (or my personality) while pregnant.  I think once baby gets here, he'll be glad to have his wife back.  He's super excited about the baby and we talk more and more about the baby all the time.

Until next time folks!

Happy Bumping!

Thoughts from a preggo

I recently read a post on Facebook from another preggo that asked who was not fully convinced that there is a baby coming.  I have gone over this thought in my head since I found out I was pregnant.  While pregnancy is so absolutely tangible, on the other hand it isn't.  Even at 6 months pregnant and clearly showing, I still have a hard time grasping the fact that there is actually a life inside of me growing, and that one day (well in 16ish weeks) it's going to come out and be its own little person.  This little person will grow into a child, then teenager, then adult!  That is just beyond fascinating to me.  I feel the baby move all the time, so I rationally know that it's in there...it's just hard to believe that its actually in there, lol!  I wonder who this little person is, what they are doing (besides floating around in water and sleeping), what they are thinking about, what they will look like, and just everything I can possibly think and want to know about someone.

This someone is mine and my husband's though and that is extremely special.  There is no other feeling in the world than to know you have created life out of love.  My husband and I often joke about how crazy this kid will be, because we know how we are.  I fully expect to have a super active kid with a big personality.  We have the added mystery of not knowing what baby is, because we have decided to stay TEAM GREEN!  I'm 6 months down with just 3 to go and that seems like such a short amount of time left.  I cannot believe how fast this time has gone by and before I know it, a little precious baby will be in my arms and not in my belly.
Just thought to share these thoughts with you and give you some insight into how I feel about being pregnant.

If you have been pregnant, did you feel the same way?

Experience anything different??

I'd love to know!

Happy Bumping!
